'Tis The Season
I truly love this time of year! I love the spreading of cheer and goodwill. I love the expansive nature of people and the willingness we have to focus on the ‘good’ in life and in people. There is an energy in the air – a global feeling of oneness with all humanity. It’s the way it’s meant to be – in my opinion.
This time of year can also be daunting for some. There is so much pressure on parents and families to get the ‘perfect gifts.’ The costs and running around can be exhausting, stressful and financially draining.
Christmas evokes many emotions – from times past or even current situations and challenges. People who have lost loved ones throughout the year may feel the intense impact at Christmas. Others who are estranged from their families can feel the heaviness of being alone or without biological family around. While many people are flitting around from family gatherings to friends, many others are alone.
I personally don’t like the commercialization of the season. I don’t care for the implied or societal pressure to be available to all the craziness that unfolds. It’s created a chaotic and stressful atmosphere for so many of us.
One of the true meanings of Christmas is time – time out of our ordinary lives - time well spent – time with family and friends – time alone. We can make choices to spend our time doing things that uplift us, encourage us, expand us and allow us to feel loved and seen. It’s a time for enormous reflection of ourselves and our lives. It’s a time for selfless self-care. It’s a time for being around people we share values and vision with. It’s a time for caring about each other & those in our lives.
Whatever your spiritual or religious beliefs, it’s a time of connection or re-connection with God or Source energy in gratitude for our family, our friends, our health and our lives. It is the truest meaning for the Christmas season. It is an opportunity to expand our inner world with the Truth of our purpose and be divinely guided by slowing down and listening.
Christmas is the season of our inner child – the wide-eyed wonder and innocence in believing that all things are possible through our faith, beliefs and inner work. We get the chance to look within, wonder without judgment, and move in the direction that our discernment and heart take us. It is a time of Magic. It is a time of Dreams. It’s a time to become the very best version of ourselves. No apologies.
This holiday season, lean in – listen – breathe – slow down – don’t let yourself be guilted into doing things you don’t want to do or buying things that you can’t afford and remember the reasons for the Christmas season. And remember, we never know what someone else’s experience is of this season, so be kind and respectful always.
What does Christmas mean to you?
May Love, Laughter, & Joy surround you. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
